***************************************************************************** Crayons - Real3Dv2 scene (01.8.94) ©1994 Cyber Image Studio by Miloslaw Smyk Thorgal/World Federation of Mad Hackers Mental Pictures Developed Here ***************************************************************************** Having seen StudioPro's demonstration picture - "Crayons", which features soft shadows and color bleeding thanks to RAYDIOSITY (TM) method, and then raytraced picture done with the same package, included clearly to show that raytracing is inferior to this new technique, I started to wonder if it is possible to recreate the thing with one of Amiga modelling and animation packages. My choice was Real3Dv2, mostly due to its excellent, photographics quality output and distributed raytracing, giving me the way to imitate radiosity's soft shadows. Modeling was done during two days and anyone who knows Real modelling abilities will certainly agree that I didn't push it to its limits. Setting proper lightning took me one more day, due to really slow rendering when soft shadows are on. Realism (and rendering time :-)) of the scene was further enhanced with depth of field effect. Final picture was rendered with antialiasing set to 3 and lightsamples to 6, what at resolution 728x582 amounts to 41 hours on my 10MB A4000/040. And if you think it's slow, you should see RAYDIOSITY (TM) at work. Enough to say that we never had a patience to complete rendering - and don't forget that Emplant on A4000 is in fact faster than Mac with the same processor (did you really think that we had used original Mac to run StudioPro ? :-)). Anyway, Real's picture looks (IMHO) much better than StudioPro's raytraced one, although probably not as good as that generated with RAYDIOSITY(TM). I guess I would need second area light, and more careful modelling of table's (or whatever it is) surface. Right, in this package you will find project file, textures and rendered picture (in JPEG format). One thing that's missing is environmental map (took out to reduce archive size), but it can be any (best if colorful) picture from your collection. If you are short on memory, try decreasing a lightsamples value.
